TOPGARD Retrofit Procedure
Step 1: Remove existing concrete top from pipe bollards by using mechanical means, i.e. chipping or grinding. Prior to removing existing concrete ensure that all appropriate PPE is being worn and train for proper use.
Step 2: Remove any concrete laitance from the chipping and grinding operation by using a damp sponge brush. Ensure that the top of the bollard is clean and free of any loose debris or dust.
Step 3: Using a hammer drill, drill a hole in the center of the existing bollards vertically to accept the inner rod. Drill this whole using a 5/8” masonry bit, drill the hole a minimum of 6 inches into the top of the bollard. Once drilling is complete ream the whole with a wire brush to remove any concrete laitance or dust to ensure proper bonding for step four.
Step 4: Fill the center hole with HY 150 epoxy or equal, also run a small bead of epoxy around the perimeter of the existing bollard approximately 1/2 inch from the outside wall of the bollard.
Step 5: Insert the TopGard pipe bollard cap into the drilled hole filled with epoxy – press down firmly to ensure proper bonding and seating of the cap.
